The most premium decoration method - dimensional impressions on leather, journals, and high-end gifts. Subtle, tactile, sophisticated.
Debossing presses the design INTO the substrate; embossing raises it OUT. Both are silent statements of quality on leather, journals, and premium gifts.
What it's best for
- Leather portfolios + journals. The classic debossed-logo executive gift.
- Leather wallets, card cases, padfolios. Subtle brand presence.
- Premium notebooks (hardback). Hardcover faux-leather + paper covers both deboss cleanly.
- Wine + spirits packaging. Custom-printed boxes with foil-stamp accents.
- Business card holders, executive desk accessories.
- Premium gift boxes. Logo on the gift packaging, not just the gift inside.
What it's NOT best for
- Apparel. Wrong substrate - use embroidery or screen print.
- Hard goods (drinkware, tools, awards). Use laser engrave or UV print.
- Multi-color logos. Deboss is mono-tone (the substrate's natural color contrast). Use foil stamping if you need a metallic accent color, or UV print for multi-color.
- Very fine detail. Debossing needs solid shapes - thin lines under ~1pt blur.
- Low-cost / commodity items. The setup fee + minimum quantity makes deboss expensive on a $2 notebook. Best on 5+ premium pieces.
Pricing model
- Per-piece cost: .00-4.00 depending on substrate + die complexity.
- Die fee: $50-150 one-time. Custom metal die per design.
- Foil-stamp uplift: $0.30-0.80 per piece if adding foil color (gold, silver, copper, etc.).
- Reorders: Die reused. Per-piece cost only.

Common questions
Deboss vs emboss - which?
Deboss = pressed in (impression sits below surface). Emboss = pushed out (raised above surface). Deboss is more common on leather + journals; emboss is common on packaging + cards.
Can I add gold foil to a debossed logo?
Yes - foil-stamp + deboss combo is a premium signature. Gold, silver, copper, holographic, custom colors.
What's the minimum order?
Most leather items: 24-50 piece minimum. Custom packaging: 100-250 minimum. Lower minimums on certain stock items.
Can I deboss on real leather without damaging it?
Yes - heat + pressure are calibrated to the leather grade. Real leather actually takes a deboss better than faux-leather over time.
